PARIPOORNA
AVADHUTHA CHIVATAM AMMA : ORIGIN BY
BHAGAVAN SRI BHARADWAJA.
The
renowned digambara yogini - Chivatam sadhu amma‘s original name is Achamma. She
started her life as an ordinary house wife in small village Chivatam (located
close to Tanuku in West Godavari district). Her husband is a vegetable
merchant. He became slave of bad habits and used to wander around without
taking care of his family. Achamma used to work in the neighbour’s houses,
would get rice from them and cook for
husband and her only son. She would never say a word even when her evil
husband abused her. She is fond of RAMA NAMAM .She would love to cook for the
kids in the village with the grain and pulses obtained from the villagers. She never wasted her time. She
used to chant Rama namam while working or she would meditate when there is no
work. One day Achamma , handed over
her son to her mother and left the house. During those days, only the words
Rama and Krishna would come out of her mouth. Afterwards, she went to Mannem
Jagannatha puram and remained silent for 10years in that region. In Mannem,
Amma did intense spiritual practices. People say that Amma did several
miracles there. Amma stayed in the women’s mutt in Rajahmundry, and then
arrived to Chivatam.
In Chivatam Amma never talked to anyone.
While she was in ecstasy her sari used to slip off. One day she took off the
sari and threw it on the boy who was walking in front of her .Since then, she
remained as Digambari. Amma used to sit and meditate under a
Jammi (acacia suma) tree near Chivatam .She said about meditation that
“One should sit under the tree that doesn’t bear fruit.” Amma liked
that Chivatam region and that Jammi tree. Most of the time she used to spent
in burial grounds.
People say that Amma’s Guru is Sadhu Ram
Babuji, who lived in lakshmi palem near palakollu, and that she received
Deeksha from Him. For 3 years Amma attended the Guru Pooja performed by Him.
Amma used to take Bhiksha from only 3
houses. She would run with Bhiksha in her hand. In those days, Amma lost her
awareness while meditating and would do the nature calls . Villagers used to
clean her. Seshamma, a devotee would take Amma, and used to give her bath. In
Chivatam Amma spent 12 years silently in meditation.
Mahatmas started coming for her Darshan.
Hare Ram Babu Garu, (who built a Suryalayam in Sidhhantam), Wadapalli Babu
Garu (a disciple of kothalanka yogi) used to come for Amma Darshan. Amma used
to offer her namaskaram to the holy feet of all Mahatmas .Once Hath yogi
Apparao garu, a disciple of Sadhu Rama Babuji garu came to Amma’s darshan. He
said to Amma “Don’t touch my feet. You are already ripened and I am not.”
A devotee named Bhaskari asked Amma
“Amma! How should we meditate? Should we chant namam while meditating or do
we have sit quite? Then Amma answered, “First start with Omkaram and then
chant Rama, Rama in your mind and sit quietly. Before finishing meditation,
say Omkaram again. Just like we clean
the front entrance with a broom in a
similar way, Omkaram removes the impurity in our mind.”
Amma said “one should listen to
spiritual discourses as the amount of curry and meditate like the amount of
rice.” Amma used to say “Meditation is like gold. Nothing is great
than Meditation.” She never put
any restrictions for meditation. “It is ok even if you don’t wash your
feet! Say Rama Rama” said Amma. “Just like we are very eager to earn 4
rupees, one should be even more eager for God.” Said Amma.
Before Samadhi when kanakayya garu asked
Amma- “Amma I will build a mutt for you.” Then she refused. Amma gave
indication about her Samadhi. Amma gave her tooth to Suramma garu, one week
before her Mahasamadhi. On June 8 1981, at 12 PM, Amma told her devotees “If
one says a word don’t reply back with ten words. Always stay firm. Whoever
comes into our doorway, give them food and water.”
Then she listened to Bhagavad-Gita. After
wards, she said to break a coconut and give arathi. Then she left her body
peacefully! Wadapalli Babu Garu came after Samadhi , looked at Amma’s head and noticed a break in the top of the
skull and clotted blood there. It means Amma left her body through
Brahmarandram. Great Pooja was performed to Amma Samadhi on the 11th
day. On the same day inauguration for the Samadhi Mandiram was done.
The
Sun, the Moon, the Stars, and several other forms in this nature attract our
vision because of their radiance. Each one of it has its own special
characteristic feature and magnetizes us in a special way. All these are
present in the sky, which in reality is much more wonderful and imbued with
glory. However it will never be a focus of our vision. Similarly, yogis,
siddhas, Mantra weettas (one who does spells) - all these people who perform
miracles, appear very interesting to
us. The Avadhoothas (recluse saints) who attained mukthi are in a higher
spiritual state, however they don’t
catch our attention. That why in spirituality , the name Avadhootha applies
only to Yoganath Sri Dattatreya. Just
like Dakshina Murthy, He is a yogi for all the yogis and Guru for all the
Gurus. AMMA is such a Paripoorna Avadhootha. In this nature all the objects
have a surface, a perimeter which created a shape or form for them. But
sky don’t have any type of such
covering. In a similar way Chivatam Amma , who is a state of Avadhootha is also DIGAMBARI.

WORSHIP OF SRI SAI FULFIL DESIRES? ORIGIN BY BHAGAVAN SRI BHARADWAJA.
Is it true that
Worship of Sri Sai Baba will fulfil our desires? The spread of devotion on sri sai in this country and
outside the country proves the fact that Sri sai is an limitless merciful
being , and if one requests him , and prays
him very soon all the difficulties will be gone and desires will be
fulfilled. Then comes the next
question –How come even after serving Sri Sai some people are still facing
problems?
Questions like this arise
because of lack of understanding about the essence (Tatwam) of Karma and
Kindness. All the spiritual traditions in this world state that we get
entangled in the karma because of our ignorance. The results of Karma are in
the form of both happiness and sadness. Sadness will follow us till we
achieve self –realization (Atma Jnaanam). This Sadness will follow us in any
form -- even after surrendering ourselves to Sri Sai, remembering him with devotion,
and following the path showed by him. This will happen till we reach the goal
set by Sri Sai which is Self Realization. So worshipping Sri Sai will not
cause any problems. This misunderstanding arises because of lack of awareness
about the essence of KARMA.
Then the next question would be, why
should we have problems if we worship Sri Sai?Karma is the result of the
actions of past lives. It comes out in two forms – one as innate
tendencies (antarangika Samskarams)
and the other in the form of the results of past life deeds. So in this life because of the
configuration of previous life’s karma ,we will have the latent tendencies
(samskarams) and the results of these tendencies. The karma principle is set
up by the merciful God .This helps to cleanse the ignorant tendencies and
thereby enable us to achieve Self-Realization. Instead of utilizing this
golden opportunity, human beings due to ignorance, due to provocation of affection
and hatred (ragadweshalu) will accumulate more tendencies and more Karma.
Great Holy texts like Bhagavadgita,
Great saints have said that the right way to achieve this is by NISHKAMA
KARMA. We don’t want to implement the Nishkaama Karma, instead we want only
the results of it. We don’t want to face the results of our own karma,
instead we expect him to fulfil all our desires. If that is possible then it
is not necessary for anyone in this world to follow DHARMA. Not only that,
what is the necessity for the human beings to try for salvation?
Sri Sai told a devotee who dissuaded
a few visitors not to come to Sri Sai
for fulfilment of material needs not
to do so. On the other hand Sri Sai said “I will be with you, only if you
stick to the truth.”
In spite of Sri Sai‘s warning a devotee
did not change his behaviour. He warned him by saying “I don’t have to deal
with a person who doesn’t care for my words.”
Another time a devotee was upset that his
relatives died. Sri Sai said “Don’t come to me ask for these type of issues.”
That is the true meaning of his saying “I am slave of Allah. I cannot do
anything without his permission. ”
Similar to the Law in this material
world, the principle of Karma is to reform the human beings who deviated from
the right path even with the help of punishment. The punishment for the crime
committed will be reduced a little to encourage the process of reformation.
This is nothing but Sri Sai fulfilling all our desires and getting us out of
troubles immediately. It is not acceptable to misuse this unique opportunity,
as it results in deviation from the main goal. .
We should have taken this type of
opportunity provided by Sri Sai, either in this birth or in previous birth ,
but did not reform as Sri Sai wanted
,so we got punished . The unsolved difficulties are because of this. For
instance – if kids don’t like to go to school, we will give money .Our
intention is by doing so, the kids should overcome their feeling and continue
their studies. If the kids spend the money and refuse to continue their
education, we will warn them initially, punish them and finally will stop
giving the money. We will let them face the punishment in the school.
Our
situation is similar to this. So Sri Sai said “I will warn you once, if you don’t listen to me I will leave you to
your Karma.” To a devotee who did a mistake. People who don’t get their
desires fulfilled, and who still face difficulties belong to this category.
There
is only one way. Sri Sai is an embodiment of mercy. We should realize that
this is the punishment for the mistakes done by us. We should face the
results of our Karma with patience. Sri Sai said the same thing when Dr.
Naripillai had a painful boil.
For a
guilty person who is obedient and regretful of his mistakes, there is a
possibility for reduction in his punishment by the Judge. This is not his
right, but it is the grace. We will obtain the grace only when we try to
reform ourselves through this punishment. Sri Sai asked this form of patience
as Dakshina.

PARIPRASNA : ORIGIN BY BHAGAVAN SRI BHARADWAJA.
Q: How is it possible to do meditation (dhyanam)
with out the mind being distracted from thoughts? Even after reading several
books meditation is becoming difficult?
A: To practice meditation correctly no
one is suitable. So thats why it is not possible. With proper thinking
and analysing one should identify the things that are not useful .
After understanding this one should contemplate it repeatedly. Then ,
the interest will decrease on such things.
Mind thinks in indeterminate manner our thoughts and memories crowd in on us beyond our control. So it should be kept busy by reading books either related to our studies or about GOD. By keeping ourselves busy always in parayana, readings, writing, study and work, the old unwanted thoughts get annihilated and no new ones accumulate. Gradually we should practice to think about the things related to God and think about GOD (SADGURU).Try to minimize gossip, reading novels, other things that are not helpful.
Never consider any
thought as irrelevant or never think that particular thought is BAD. Before
coming to that conclusion, it is necessary to think properly and realize
there in no meaning in them. If not done so, it is like covering an illness without
curing it.
It is essential to read the life
histories, preaching of the great mahatmas like Buddha, Vivekananda,
Ramakrishna, Saibaba, Ramana Maharshi, Yogi
Vemana .After that daily read some slokas with meaning from BHAGAVAD –GITA.
Recite the slokas that are important.
In addition, exercise is necessary for
most of the people. Games, Surya namaskarams, Yoga are also very good.
Think about great mahatma like SRI SAI. remember SAI BABA 's teachings
and chant his NAMAM. By remembering Sai teachings and implementing in day
today life mind can be stabilized. After practicing this and if we stay
in such a state - keeping our mind on Baba in all the living beings
, then the next stage would be DHYANAM. The last stage is
Dhyanam. Don’t try to remember the lessons from the text books or
the above said things. Try to understand anything that you read. After
understanding try to explain it to others.Things that we try to remember are
unmemorable. Things that we understood are unforgettable.
